What are dried matrix spots?

Dried matrix spot (DMS) is the general term for dried blood spot (DBS), dried urine spot (DUS) and further dried matrices on a filter paper media.

For almost colorless matrices such as saliva, urine, or milk, special cards are available that change the color when they come in contact with a water-based liquid. In contrast to untreated DBS cards, the displacement of the pre-applied color on the card helps to identify the presence of an otherwise colorless sample.
