For the automated DBS card processing, the industry has agreed on a common format with a dimension of 85x 53 mm. A wide variety of cards from different manufacturers is available. The individual cards mainly differ in the composition and pre-treatment of the filter paper embedded within the cards. Furthermore, they have different registrations (IVD, FDA) which might be relevant for certain applications.
Traditionally, the cards are designed to sample 4 DBS.
